Gomel Economic Forum yields over $2.7bn in signed deals to date

Over its 20-year history, the Gomel Economic Forum has grown far beyond a mere platform for signing agreements, though the results speak for themselves, Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko said during the plenary session of the 20th Gomel Economic Forum, BelTA reports.

“Over the years of the forum, 125 documents have been signed totaling more than $2.7 billion. Projects have been implemented in manufacturing, healthcare, processing, logistics, and the service sector,” the governor informed.

As examples, he cited the production of barrier multilayer films, machine tools, welding electrodes, the opening of medical centers in Gomel, Zhlobin, Mozyr, Rechitsa, and Svetlogorsk, a hotel in Gomel, an agro-tourism complex in Gomel District, and much more.

“But experience shows that genuine partnerships do not begin with signatures on documents. They begin with trust, respect, the ability to listen to one another, and the willingness to seek solutions together. Today, this is especially important. The world is gradually coming to understand that the era of unilateral pressure undermines international cooperation. The economy cannot develop effectively where there is no equal dialogue,” Ivan Krupko asserted.

In his observation, periods of sustainable growth have always been built on openness to cooperation, respect for partners’ interests, and mutual benefit. “Hence the growing role of regional diplomacy, direct contacts between enterprises, research centers, and territories. Forums such as the Gomel Economic Forum are becoming platforms for shaping this new culture of international interaction. A culture that is in some ways more pragmatic, always honest, and focused on long-term results,” the governor emphasized.

He noted that the forum is taking place in a region with a powerful industrial base, a developed agricultural sector, and tremendous scientific potential. “But our main strength remains our people. They are responsible, hardworking, able to achieve results, and true to their word,” Ivan Krupko concluded.

The 20th edition of the Gomel Economic Forum brought together representatives from 16 countries. Over two days, participants are exploring the region’s economic potential. Over the years, the forum has become a recognized and authoritative platform for discussing pressing issues of international trade, economic and investment cooperation, and for establishing reliable long-term interregional ties and partnerships.
