Belarus has everything needed for the development of tourism, Belarusian Sports Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said during a meeting with the sports community of Gomel Oblast at the state Olympic reserve school, BelTA has learned.

During a discussion on new trends in the development of tourism in Belarus, the minister highlighted the diversity and beauty of the country: from nature to industries, rituals, and traditions.

“Much has been done in the tourism sector over the past few years. Belarusian nature, historical and cultural landmarks, and even medicine and industry… The field of activity is vast, and opportunities for tourism development are even greater. Belarus is a very beautiful country with a rich history and multifaceted potential in all areas. More than 10 types of tourism are actively developing here. And the most important treasure is our people, warm-hearted, open, and hospitable,” Sergei Kovalchuk emphasized.

The minister noted that the number of tourists in Belarus is growing year by year, despite the fact that certain borders are closed. Factory tourism, in particular, is gaining momentum. More than 130 enterprises across the country are ready to open their behind-the-scenes world to those interested in how iconic Belarusian goods are produced: from multi-ton heavy-duty trucks to sweets. For the first time, the number of foreign factory tourists exceeded the number of Belarusians last year. Interest in this tourism continues to grow.

National flavor is a special highlight of countryside recreation and agri-ecotourism. In total, there are more than 1,400 agri-estates in Belarus. Over 470,000 tourists visit them each year, a significant portion of whom are Belarusians. “The owners of agri-estates come up with special touches and display maximum hospitality. Here, you will be warmly welcomed, treated to food, sung to, and your leisure time will be organized,” the minister said.

Historical and cultural tourism reveals the secrets and legends of local castles, palaces, and estates. Religious tourism offers a wide selection of pilgrimage routes to the country's spiritual centers.

Medical tourism is also posting steady growth. From 2020 to 2025, the export of medical services increased by 1.5 times. Belarus has hosted patients from 160 countries. “This is evidence of the recognition of Belarusian medicine abroad. Our medical-focused health resorts are always 80-90% booked, and sometimes even over 100%,” he said.

“The head of state has set the task of making tourism a national project, to open up our history, culture, and language to the world. We see that the government is strengthening this sector. We are ready to suggest certain solutions based on our experience on this track,' Sergei Kovalchuk added.
