The renovated memorial complex dedicated to Operation Bagration in Svetlogorsk District will help younger generations gain a deeper understanding of Belarus’ history, Belarusian Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets told the media after the opening ceremony, BelTA has learned.

The minister described the preservation of historical memory as one of the key objectives in educating younger generations. “During the opening of the new museum, we can see the importance of the historic and decisive events of the Great Patriotic War that took place here on Svetlogorsk land. I am confident that this memorial complex will become a point of attraction for schoolchildren, college students and university students not only from Gomel Oblast, but from across the country,” Andrei Ivanets said.

“Today, together with the Ministry of Culture, we are implementing the ‘Lesson in a Museum’ project. Therefore, this memorial complex will certainly become a venue where young people will not only be able to attend history or literature lessons, but also truly immerse themselves in the heroic chapters [of our ancestors’ history] and remember the feat accomplished by our grandfathers and great-grandfathers,” the minister said.

He noted that visitors are immersed in the atmosphere of hardship and the difficult pages of Soviet history from the very first hall of the museum and information center. “By the end of the visit, you realize that it was thanks to the heroism and courage of every Soviet citizen that Victory was forged. This museum has successfully woven together history and modern technology,” Andrei Ivanets concluded.
