CEC: Election campaign in Belarus will start on 31 January

The election campaign in Belarus will start on 31 January, Secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Yelena Baldovskaya said at a round-table meeting hosted by the BelTA press center to discuss the upcoming election campaign.

“The law sets out clear guidelines for campaigning activities. Meetings, pickets, rallies shall be held upon notification; meetings with voters shall be arranged in premises determined by executive committees. The law also regulates production of campaign materials, and so on. Candidates running for seats in the House of Representatives will be able to share their election messages in print media, on television and radio for free. They will also be able to take part in television debates. Candidates running for seats in the regional councils of deputies and local councils will be able to publish their programs free of charge on the websites of local executive and administrative bodies,” said Yelena Baldovskaya.

“In addition to that, candidates will be able to fund their campaigns through their campaign coffers,” noted the CEC secretary.

According to her, the campaign will be ongoing till 24 February. “30 January will be the deadline for registering candidates for deputies. The campaign will begin on 31 January and will last until 24 February. Campaigning will be prohibited on the single voting day on 25 February,” added Yelena Baldovskaya.
