Target markets, new investment projects, products. Belarus’ PM evaluates situation at pulp mill

14.05.2026
The diversification of target markets, the implementation of a new investment project, and the manufacturing of import-substituting products were the key items on the agenda of a conference chaired by Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksandr Turchin at Svetlogorsk Pulp and Cardboard Mill, BelTA has learned.

Among the top priorities on the agenda are tasks concerning not only deep wood processing and production of high-value-added goods, but also the processing of low-quality wood, including the timber fallen by recent hurricanes.

The prime minister also checked on the progress of a new investment project to produce sack paper. The launch process is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

The agenda also included the diversification of target markets for finished products and the adoption of measures aimed at ensuring the accident-free operation of the manufacturing facilities.

The stabilization of the enterprise’s financial status was among the most important matters on the agenda.

BelTA reported earlier that support for Svetlogorsk Pulp and Cardboard Mill was one of the topics at Belarus president’s recent conference with the Council of Ministers leadership. In particular, one of the matters considered on 5 May was a draft resolution of the Council of Ministers on allocating funds from the state budget fund for national development to Svetlogorsk Pulp and Cardboard Mill.

After the conference Aleksandr Turchin noted that these problems should be examined on a larger scale. In his words, this problem affects more than this particular enterprise and regularly arises at various production facilities. “Perhaps we should consider making a systemic decision on payments to the national development fund so that we do not have to go to the head of state so often,” the prime minister emphasized back then.
