Farmers in Gomel Oblast have sown corn on nearly 80% of the target area, Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Anatoly Gaponik said during a staff meeting of the oblast executive committee, BelTA has learned.
“Spring fieldwork is underway, and corn - our main crop - has been sown on 224,300 hectares, reaching 78% of the plan. Of this, 95,500 hectares are for grain and 128,800 hectares for green mass,” he said.
Anatoly Gaponik noted that Korma District has already exceeded its target, having fulfilled 105% of its plan. “Nine agricultural enterprises have also completely finished sowing corn,” he said.
The Rogachev, Rechitsa, Yelsk and Petrikov districts need to speed up their sowing campaign, he added.
Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko instructed district and agricultural enterprise heads to complete the work by the set deadlines and to make use of all available resources.
